2022 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Update
In June, 2022, the Village Board approved an update to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. The 2022 Update was led by Epstein, a planning consultant firm, and was guided by the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Group and Village Staff. The updated Plan provides a guide for the implementation of an array of infrastructure improvements, including sidewalks, on-street bike lanes, shared use paths, and intersection upgrades for improved walking and bicycling in the Village. Some key objectives in the plan include the elimination of all fatal crashes involving people walking or bicycling, closing all remaining gaps in the Village's sidewalk network, and increasing the share of Niles residents who can walk or bike to work.

2014 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan
The Village of Niles Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan was adopted in 2014. Building off recommendations from the Village’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan and the Environmental Action Plan, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan developed an implementable strategy for creating a more walkable and bikeable community. The plan includes a range of recommendations ranging from specific capital projects to overarching policies that will work in tandem to enhance safety, increase connectivity and access, and improve the greater bicycle and pedestrian experience in the Village.
