Public Hearing
The Village of Niles will hold a public hearing June 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. online at www.vniles.com/youtube to provide interested parties an opportunity to express their views on the proposed Rebuild Illinois Public Infrastructure Grant (RIPI) project and Rebuild Illinois Economic Development Grant (RIED). On or about June 30, 2020, the Village of Niles intends to apply to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for a grant from the Rebuild Illinois program. This program is funded by state funds as included in the 2019 Capital Bill. These funds are to be used for a community development project that will include the following activities: construction of a flood mitigation basin to reduce flooding, creating a public park providing an open public space with areas for outdoor markets, concerts, and other social, cultural and recreational uses. The project will also include water basin with native plantings, storage chambers beneath a festival lawn, and a new relief sewer servicing a 200-acre area in the Village. The park amenities will benefit all the residents of Niles. The total amount of Rebuild Illinois funds to be requested is $1.5 million. The Village of Niles also proposes to expend $11.9 million in non-Rebuild Illinois funds on the project. These non-Rebuild Illinois funds will be derived from the following sources: MWRDGC Stormwater Reimbursement, IEPA low interest loan, and the Village Water Fund.
