Fire Suppression, Motor-Vehicle Accidents, and other Emergency Incidents

Entering a Smokey Home

The NFD prides itself on the professionally trained Firefighters who provide fire protection and emergency response to the Village of Niles and its residents. We staff two Fire Engines, one Tower Ladder, two Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulances, and an Incident Command vehicle 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. We frequently respond to a wide variety of emergency incidents in addition to fires such as vehicle accidents, EMS incidents, indoor/outdoor gas leaks, natural disasters, hazardous materials spills, and special rescue situations. Our Firefighters perform daily training ensuring that we are able to provide competent and effective service in a wide variety of disciplines. The NFD is a member agency affiliated with the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) which allows us access to their campus for training purposes including the use of their live fire training ground. In addition, today’s climate dictates that we must acknowledge the potential threat for an active threat/shooting incident. As a result, we constantly prepare and evaluate our response plan along with our Law Enforcement partners to ensure we are prepared when necessary.
