COVID-19
The NFD is committed to providing the best possible care for the community throughout the duration of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are constantly striving to mitigate the risks associated with the disease so that we may prevent the spread of the illness while transporting those who need emergency care to the hospital. Our members sanitize our ambulances after each emergency incident and wear protective masks that prevent the spread of COVID-19 between us and anyone we interact with. Similarly, we have protective gowns and gloves that can further reduce the risk of spreading the disease between our Firefighter/Paramedics and residents.
We continue to update our policies and best practices based on recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health , CDC, Cook County Department of Emergency Management, and Advocate Lutheran General EMS System, please consult their respective websites for a wealth of information regarding COVID-19. Please consult your primary care physician or the IDPH Testing Site link for information about testing locations.
The CDC recommends seeking emergency medical care if you or someone you know is experiencing trouble breathing, persistent pain/pressure in the chest, newfound confusion, inability to wake or stay awake, or having blueish lips or face. This is not a comprehensive list so please do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 if you feel you need medical attention regardless of whether your symptoms are part of the above list.
For information regarding the COVID-19 Vaccine please consult the Cook County Department of Public Health's Cook County Vaccine Program website where you can signup for updates, information, and notifications regarding vaccine administration. You can also contact the Cook County Department of Public Health's telephone hotline at 1-833-308-1988 Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm.
The NFD will continue to evolve and modify our operations as we learn more about COVID-19. If you have questions or concerns relating to COVID-19 please contact us at 847-588-6800 during normal business hours.
