The Niles Police Consumer Fraud Unit provides the ability for residents, non-residents, and consumers who patronize a Niles business to resolve discrepancies that arise from a contractual issue or from a retail purchase. Typically, the Consumer Fraud Unit handles 20 to 30 cases monthly. In addition, the Consumer Fraud Unit can assist Niles residents who experience problems with outside contractors. In those matters, usually a mutually agreed upon resolution will be made by all parties. The Consumer Fraud Unit also handles inspections of Niles retail establishments that sell magazines and videos to assure that these establishments conform to village ordinances prohibiting the display / sale of pornographic material.
