Bicycle Unit

The Niles Police Department established a bicycle patrol unit in 2001. The unit is part of the Patrol Division that are assigned for their shift to patrol on bicycles instead of their squad cars. Being on a bicycle allows you to move easier through the residential areas of town and allow the officers to be more interactive with the residents. Officers on bikes can move more efficiently through congested areas and are often used for special events when there are large crowds.

The Niles Police Department also has a Community Service Officer Bike Unit that participates in community events, park district events and block parties.
