The Board of Trustees recently approved the development of a Village of Niles Environmental Action Plan as called for within the Niles 2030 Comprehensive Plan. A steering committee will work with Associate Planner Kristin Ihnchak of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP). The village was awarded this federally funded “technical assistance” grant from CMAP in late 2011.
The planning process for an environmental action plan is similar to that of a comprehensive plan. There will be an existing conditions analysis, draft goals, public workshops, stakeholder interviews, a draft plant, open house, and then adoption.
There will be a steering committee kickoff meeting in June and the first public workshop is planned for late July 25 at
7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The study is expected to be completed for presentation to the Board of Trustees in seven or eight months.
