Please find below information on events and activities taking place at or with the Niles Teen Center in the next couple of weeks.

                                                  

Fall Programming- Newsletters and Calendars

 Quarterly Mailing and Membership Renewals

Last week, everyone should have received a letter from Mark in the mail with the newsletter and calendars.  Some of you will also receive membership renewal forms.  If you are expired or expiring soon, please sign and return the forms with proper payment so that you (or your teen) can continue to participate in our programs.

 

New Initiatives

  • Bring a Friend Fridays
    On a selected Friday each month, if a current member brings a friend as a guest, both teens will receive a free soda and bag of chips.  If the guest, purchases a membership, the current member and new member will receive a $10 gift certificate for Kappy’s or $5 gift certificate to Subway or Gloria Jeans Coffee.
  • The first “Bring a Friend Friday” will be Friday, Sept. 7.

  •  
    • Open early for D63 Early Dismissal Days- Approximately once a month, D63 has an early dismissal for students for teacher in-service training.  On these days, the Teen Center will be open at 11:45 am.  The first “Open Early Day” will be Friday, Sept. 7.

 

 

 

Cooking Project- Tues. Sept. 4- Monster Cookie Bars- 4:00-5:00 pm

 

Join Jamie in making these awesome sweet and sticky afterschool treats with chocolate, peanut butter, oats and M&M’s.

 

 

 

Game Tournament- Wed. Sept. 5- Fortnite- 4:30-5:30 pm
Most Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m., the Teen Center staff will set up tournaments for video games and table games like Foosball, Air Hockey, Darts, NBA2K16 or Call of Duty 3. Prizes may be awarded to winners.

 


 

Boys Check-In- Thurs. Sept 6- 4:15-5:00 pm

 

Spend a little time chatting with Darren Brown or play a game with him.

 

 

 

Back to School Dance- Sat. Sept. 8

 

Grab your friends and dance away your back-to-school blues!!! Come to the Niles Family Fitness Center gym for music and dancing by Pro-Mix Audio and Lighting. There will be no entry after 8:00 p.m. and if you leave the dance, you may not re-enter. Open to 6th through 8th grades ONLY (or any current Teen Center member).

 

Date: Saturday, September 8

 

Time: 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

 

Cost: $10 per person (includes 4 tickets for drinks and snacks)

 

Location: Niles Family Fitness Center- 987 Civic Center Drive, Niles

 

 

 

Volunteers are needed for the Back to School Dance
The dance is on Saturday, Sept. 8 and assistance is needed from 5:30 pm to 9:15 pm
Please let Mark know if you can help with the concession stand or general supervision.

 

 

 

Cook County Elections seeks Student Judges- pays $190 

 

The Cook County Clerk's Office is looking for high school students to serve as Student Judges in suburban Cook County during the November 6, 2018 Gubernatorial Election. Student Judges share the same responsibilities as adult judges, including check-in and registering of voters, directing voters to the correct voting equipment and ensuring a smooth and successful Election Day!

High school students must be:

 
  • Juniors or Seniors in high school
  • Have a 3.0 GPA
  • Submit a consent form by Friday, September 14th 2018
  • Complete training to receive an Election Day assignment.
 

Students earn $190

Friday, Sept. 14- Teen “In-House” Movie Night- 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm- $4 each

 

Come to the Teen Center for Teen Movie Nights. Stop by or call to recommend a teen movie. All movies will be PG or PG-13. Additional snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Fee goes toward additional supervision. No sign-up prior to event is necessary.

 

Movie Choices will be …

 

Rampage (PG-13- Action/SciFi- 1 hour 45 min)- In this sci-fi tale based on a video game, Davis Okoye sees the gorilla he’s raised turn from gentle beast into terrifying monster when an experiment goes wrong.  To save the ape and humanity, he must team with a genetic engineer to find an antidote (Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman)

 

Maze Runner: The Death Cure (PG-13- Action/SciFi- 2 hour 20 min)- In the final stirring of the “Maze Runner” trilogy, Thomas and his Glader warriors have one last chance to find a cure for the Flare pandemic.  As the apocalyptic face-off with the WCKD organization begins, Thomas employs a daring strategy. (Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario)

 

Breaking In (PG-13- Thriller- 1 hour 30 min)- Gabrielle Union stars as a woman who will stop at nothing to rescue her two children being held hostage in a house designed with impenetrable security.  No trap, no trick and especially no man can match a mother with a mission when she is determined on Breaking In. (Gabrielle Union, Billy Burke, Ajiona Alexus)

 

 

 

Great America Fright Fest - Columbus Day (No School)- Deadline Wed. Sept. 26
Travel to Six Flags Great America, which this fall will feature monster roller coasters and scary creatures!  Make sure to bring extra money for food and souvenirs.  This trip may depart from a location other than the Niles Teen Center.  Trip offered with the Park Ridge Park District.
Date: Monday, October 8
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Min/Max: 4/8
Cost: $50 for ticket, transportation, supervision

 

$20 for season pass holders, transportation and supervision
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, September 26

Dungeons & Dragons Free Play-Saturday, September 22, 1:00-4:00 pm
Dive into the story-building world of Dungeons & Dragons in this monthly gaming meet-up. Bring a character you've already created, or play one provided by our local Dungeon Master.

Stop by the Teen Center or call 847-588-6900 to verify your Teen Center account email

 

Go to www.NilesTeenCenter.org.  Click Online Registration (left side of page)

 

Click Login (top right of page)

 

Click forgot password

 

Type in the email you verified with the Teen Center

 

You will be sent an email with a link to reset your password.  Type your password, verify your password and click submit.

 

Click Login to access your account

 

Click on My Account

 

You are now able to enter all Family Account Information

 


 

With your online account, you will be able to register and pay online for events and activities like movie night and trips.  However, you will not be able to renew your membership.  Memberships must be renewed in person through the Teen Center office.

 


 

Policy and Procedure Manual
Teen Center staff recently developed a policy and procedure manual.  The information included is intended for teens and parents, as well as staff, explaining our standard procedures of operation and explaining behavior expectations and consequences for teen participants.
Parents, please review this document with your teen participant.  Thanks!

 


 

ID cards REQUIRED for TC Attendance
Remember, ALL Teens are REQUIRED to have and USE their teen center ID cards to CHECK-IN to the facility.  Any need for a reprinted ID will be $5 each.  If you don’t have your ID, you will create more work for Mark and he will have to manually check you in.  The new MaxGalaxy software does not allow members to bypass the ID scanner, therefore ALL TEENS MUST USE THEIR ID CARDS TO CHECK-IN.  Thanks!
