Branch Cleanup After the November 25-26 Storm
Acres Group is handling trees on the Village’s right of way. Residents should call Public Works at 847-588-7900 and submit a service request for those. Limbs from private property are the responsibility of the homeowner and should be disposed of via Groot. The free branch pickup from Groot runs through November, so they will pick them up this week. Rules must be followed as always regarding size, bundles, etc. (https://www.vniles.com/133/Branch-Pickup) If the resident is not capable of meeting these requirements, they should seek the help of a private tree company.
If someone is unsure of who is responsible, they can always contact Public Works at 847-588-7900 and we will help them figure it out!
Regular Branch Pickup Service
The Village of Niles has a contract with Groot to offer a free branch pickup service to residents. The branch pickup program runs from April through November. The leaf pickup service provided by the Village runs from mid-October through late November.
Bundling Requirements
Residents are reminded that any branches placed for collection must be tied in bundles with twine or string (no wire or plastic), and should be no more than 18 inches (45 centimeters) in diameter and four feet (1.2 meters) in length; otherwise crews will not collect them.
The bundling requirement is in place so crews can quickly and safely pick up branches. When branches are not bundled they become intertwined, making them difficult to pick up and causing back injuries to employees when they strain to free the tangled mess. Residents who do not bundle branches will be cited until they properly bundle them or remove them from their property.
An easy way to tell if you have the bundle the correct size is that any bundle should be able to easily be picked up by one person. Properly bundled branches are shown in the picture at https://www.vniles.com/133/Branch-Pickup.
