Village of Niles and Niles Park District Announce 4th of July Event Plans

May 21, 2021 (Niles, Ill.) – Niles’ annual 4th of July celebration will return with a parade, but without the popular Family Fest that typically followed.

“Due to the size of Grennan Heights, and with so many young children still unvaccinated, we weren’t comfortable gathering families at Family Fest,” said Dennis O’Donovan, Park District Board President. “We look forward to a full re-opening, when we can once again come together to enjoy this fun event.”

“We are happy that families can enjoy the parade this year,” said George D. Alpogianis, Mayor of the Village of Niles. “The length of the parade route allows families to observe reasonable precautions related to Covid-19.”

The parade will start at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 4th, departing from Notre Dame High School, and will follow its traditional route until it reaches Grennan Heights Park.

“It’s wonderful that we are able to start bringing back more of our traditional activities,” said Alpogianis. “We know how important they are to the community. We look forward to a healthy and happy 2021.”

“Even though we won’t be hosting any activities after the parade,” said O’Donovan, “we are planning smaller family events throughout the summer such as drive-in movie nights, and weekly concerts in the park.”
