The Citizens Police Academy is ten weeks in length and is free of charge. You will spend those 10 weeks learning about the Niles Police Department and how it functions. There will be hands-on training in evidence, firearms, and patrol. You will be taught by Niles police officers. Classes will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Upon graduation you will receive a diploma and we will enjoy an evening with family and friends and a good meal.
Mission of the Niles Police Department
The mission of the Niles Police Department is to equally and fairly protect and serve all people within its jurisdiction without regard to race, color, religion, ethnicity, age, or sexual orientation.
The Citizens Police Academy is open to Niles residents and owners or employees of businesses within the Village of Niles who are at least 21 years of age. When you have completed the academy you will have a better understanding of what it means to be a police officer and a better understanding of how local law enforcement works. You will also develop a relationship with officers teaching the courses and we hope a better relationship with the Niles Police Department. In doing this we hope that as citizens who work, live, and play in Niles, you will help us to reduce crime and help us to solve problems and issues in our village.
