The Village of Niles declares a Heat Alert from Sunday, July 17th, through Monday, July 18th. The temperatures expected to be in the mid-90s with uncomfortably high humidity each day.
A prerecorded Heat Alert message was sent to all known Niles residents, 80 years and older. The combination of high heat and high humidity can be very dangerous, especially for seniors. It’s important not to go outside unless it’s absolutely necessary. You need to keep cool, drink plenty of water, avoid physical activity, avoid using the oven, and avoid eating heavy meals.
If a cool place is needed, the Niles Family Fitness Center will be open Sunday, 7am to 5pm and Monday, 5am to 10pm. The Senior Center is closed on Sunday and will be open on Monday, 8:30am to 5pm. If you need assistance or are concerned about another Niles resident, call 9-1-1.
