ComEd Repairs to Shut Down I-294 Lanes
Traffic Expected to Be Backed Up
Niles, Ill. (April 24) – As a result of yesterday’s car crash near Oakton Street and Algonquin Road, ComEd will be shutting down all but one lane of traffic in each direction of I-294. The lanes will start to close at 11:30 p.m. Friday night, April 25 and will officially close at midnight so ComEd can repair power lines. The closings will be just before northbound Touhy Ave. and southbound Willow Road.
The power line work on the Tri-State will take several hours and will be done in as safe a manner as possible with the intention of minimizing inconvenience to travelers. State Police will be directing traffic, but only the right lane going each direction will allow for traffic flow, which is predicted to cause backed up traffic. The work be completed no later than 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning, April 26, and traffic should go back to normal shortly after.
