The Village of Niles is continuing the implementation of the Milwaukee Avenue Streetscape Plan, and this year will be enhancing the area from Oakton Street to Monroe Street. Unlike the first three phases of the project south Oakton Street, the majority of work this year will occur along the curb and the adjacent right-of-way/parkway area.
The work to be completed consists of installation of raised planter beds, landscaping improvements, brick paver installation, irrigation system installation, new sidewalk, street furniture and decorative fencing. This work is made possible through an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant of $747,840.
The streetscape improvement work is anticipated to start the week of May 11, 2015 and be completed by August 1, 2015, weather permitting. During construction there will be daily lane closures in order to facilitate construction. In a separate but related project, the Illinois Department of Transportation will also be resurfacing Milwaukee Avenue following completion of the new curb installation in the streetscape project area.
