Comcast keeps raising my rates excessively. They have a strategy of sending me a greatly inflated bill, then negotiating for less of an increase. The trouble is that the increase is still excessive. If we had a Comcast competitor to provide reliable cable service (no dish) it would help negotiate more reasonable costs. This area's municipalities often offer RCN. I'd like an opportunity to see what they offer, for how much.

I would like us to be able to use our water manager, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago (MWRD) to obtain some rain barrels for our community. MWRD offers free rain barrels to residents that are enrolled in their program. This mainly would help us in conserving water during droughts, assist with flooding during which we have storm run offs, help control moisture levels around the foundations of our homes and would mean less water that would have to be treated by the sewage plants. The rain water would be mainly used for gardening, since rain water would have less chemicals than tap water. Per the EPA: Lawn and garden watering make up nearly 40% of total household water use during the summer. This means we can lower our water bill. Best of all is who wouldn't want to benefit from a free rain barrel? Municipalities interested in participating in our free rain barrel program should contact Allison Fore at 312.751.6626.

The river park area would probably be the most convenient but would end up being quite crowded. The new sports complex near 14th street and lake would be a descent area also and would provide an area were a little extra barking may not bother any near by homes. I'm sure there are many other areas that would be quite viable and would be a pretty cheap way to add to the quality of life in the Niles community. Most dog parks I have been to entail chain link fence, a few benches, a drinking fountain for the dogs, and of course an open field. I'm sure donations would be quite easy to come by also to help with the materials for such a project.

Niles should follow this example to show transparency in public government. I don't think the village or employees have anything to be ashamed of in this regard.

Residents would like to be able to pay for vehicle stickers and water bills online. This can be done very simply by adding a Paypal payment box on the website for individuals with no changes to services or vehicles. On a daily basis staff can print a report showing payments received and process the sticker or bill payment the same as other payment types.
Fees are the same as credit card fees - charge a surcharge for credit card payments or online payments if necessary.
A more expensive way is to integrate the payments with your ERP software but that is not necessary. Keep it simple with a Paypal account.
I operate 10 websites and work for a municipality in the Finance Department. This is very simple to do. Email me with any questions.

As a Niles residence for about 22 years living around Milwaukee and Main St., I would like to see a new traffic light at Milwaukee and Monroe just north of Booby's. I understand that this is quite expensive but it may help with traffic congestion and accidents for cars attempting to make left turns to Monroe from either side. Monroe is like Main street in that it connects the east and west sides of Milwaukee Ave. I have seen over and over cars causing near accidents and traffic congestion at that intersection because there are no dedicated left turn lanes.

Our new tree lined corridor and village would be more appealing next to a village building that reflects the same style.
