How do I dispose of household hazardous waste such as paint and motor oil?
Illinois law prohibits the disposal of certain waste in landfills. The following items will not be collected by Groot: electronic waste, automobile tires, automobile batteries, explosives and volatile waste, flammable waste, gasoline, motor oil, similar automobile fluids, toxic and hazardous waste, acids and poisons and unhardened paint. To dispose of these items, see the Household Chemical Waste section of The Niles Solid Waste and Recycling Guide or call the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County at (847) 724-9205 or visit swancc.org to learn of ways to dispose of these items.
