Trustee Danette O’Donovan Matyas was raised in Niles and graduated from St John Brebeuf School and Marillac High School. She has two children, one granddaughter and a grandson due July of 2021.
While raising a family and working full time, Trustee Matyas put herself through college. She attended Oakton Community College at night, part time, and transferred to DePaul University, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Business.
For 31 years, Trustee Matyas worked in the Finance Department for Alberto Culver Company in Melrose Park. In 2010 the company sold, resulting in all of the office employees being laid off in 2012. She then went to work in the finance department for Life Fitness corporate office in Rosemont in 2014 and retired in 2019.
Trustee Matyas also served as a Trustee on the Niles-Maine District Library from 2011 through 2016.
She is currently Chairperson of the Public Works Committee and Co-Chair of the Milwaukee Avenue Streetscape Committee.
Trustee Matyas feels it is an honor to be part of this board, working together to move Niles forward, and to hear the voice of the people on their issues and concerns.
